How to make a Hangig Rustic Picture | DIY
It’s quarantine time and with it the options to create new projects are limited due to the impossibility of being able to go out and acquire the necessary and ideal material for our work. But if you are real accumulators of leftover material like me, THIS IS YOUR TIME TO SHINE.
As it’s happening with kitchen recipes, if we want to create things at home right now we have to improvise with what we have. And this is how it happened with the project that I bring you today.
Far from being an original idea (I found many works like this on Pinterest, a place I highly recommend and where you’ll find many similar ideas that will inspire your inner handyman), I bring you the process of how I made this rustic hanging «frame». In my case I have used the map of Red Dead Redemption 2, but it is totally feasible to give it a photo of your dog or a poster of your favorite movie.

Cómo hacer un Cuadro Colgante | DIY
Es la época de la cuarentena y con ello las opciones para crear nuevos proyectos se nos limitan debido a la imposibilidad de poder ir a adquirir aquel material necesario e ideal para nuestro trabajo. Pero si sois unos auténticos acumuladores de material sobrante como yo, ESTE ES VUESTRO MOMENTO.
Al igual que sucede con las recetas de cocina, si queremos crear cosas en casa ahora mismo nos toca improvisar con lo que tengamos. Y así es como ha pasado con el proyecto que os traigo hoy.
Lejos de ser una idea original (encontré muchos trabajos así por Pinterest, lugar al que os recomiendo encarecidamente y donde encontraréis muchísimas ideas similares que inspirarán a vuestro manitas interior), os traigo el proceso de cómo realicé este «marco» colgante estilo rústico. En mi caso he utilizado el mapa del Red Dead Redemption 2, pero es totalmente viable el endiñarle una fotillo de vuestro perrete o un póster de vuestra película favorita.

STEPS

First cut the wooden slats to the width of the map. In my case I cut the ends at an angle and leaving a little margin, but it is purely aesthetic.
Primero cortamos los listones de madera a la medida del ancho del mapa. En mi caso corté los extremos en ángulo y dejando un poco de margen, pero es cosa puramente estética.
Then we can add texture to give it a more rustic, aged or worn touch using tools that we have at home such as a hammer, sandpaper, rasp, gouges, etc.
Luego le podemos añadir textura para darle un toque más rústico, envejecido o desgastado utilizando herramientas que tengamos en casa como un martillo, lijas, escofina, gubias, etc.
Aesthetics can still be improved by adding a little wood stain.
Todavía se puede mejorar la estética añadiendo un poco de tinte para madera.
Here I cut the polystyrene just to the size of the map, but leaving margins above and below as the size of the slats, so I could glue them on top without covering part of the map.
Aquí corté la base de poliestireno justo a la medida del mapa, pero dejando unos márgenes arriba y abajo del tamaño de los listones, para poder pegarlos encima sin tapar parte del mapa.
To fix the map to the base you could use white glue, but my intention was to keep the poster in good condition as long as possible. So I decided to hold it with a staple at each corner. The staples can be released easily if we are not careful manipulating it. In that case we could separate them from the polystyrene and add a little white glue to the holes, surely it would do just the right strength so that they would not move from there.
Para fijar el mapa a la base se podría utilizar cola blanca, pero mi intención era conservar el póster lo máximo posible. Así que decidí sujetarlo con una grapa en cada esquina. Las grapas se pueden soltar con facilidad si no vamos con cuidado. En ese caso podríamos separarlas del poliestireno y añadir en los agujeritos un poco de cola blanca, seguramente haría la fuerza justa para que no se volvieran a mover de ahí.
Next I glued the slats with white glue. And I used clamps to secure it, but you could also use heavy books to make this.
A continuación pegué los listones con cola blanca. Y utilicé unas pinzas de sujeción para hacer fuerza, pero también podríais utilizar libros pesados para ello.
I also added a little more detail by cutting thin strips of eva foam gluing them with hot glue.
También le añadí un poco más de detalle cortando unas finas tiras de goma eva pegándolas con silicona caliente.
To create the hanging thing I used a clamp, screws, rings (so that my screws did not go through the holes in the clamp) and a bit of rope.
Para crear la sujeción utilicé una abrazadera, tornillos, arandelas (para que mis tornillos no traspasasen la los agujeros de la abrazadera) y un poco de cuerda.
Very carefully I screwed it to the polystyrene so as not to force the structure too much. If yours does not resist, you can do it directly on the wood.
Con mucho cuidado lo atornillé al poliestireno para no forzar mucho la estructura. Si el vuestro no resiste, podéis hacerlo directamente en la madera.
Finally I used bitumen of judea to age the rope, the eva foam, the clamps and a little more wood.
Finalmente utilicé betún de judea para envejecer tanto la cuerda, como la goma eva, las abrazaderas y un poquito más la madera.
